My name is Dominique. I’ve always been a creative person since I was little. Always drawing, writing and creating stories to entertain myself and others. School and other areas in life expanded my artistic horizons and having a crafty aunt (who unfortunately passed in 2016 from her own terminal illness) allowed me to delve into crafts aside from drawing. I love anytime I can create something.
In 2009, I was diagnosed with chronic depression and anxiety. I struggled a lot with that in the social areas of my life, but it didn’t stop me from being creative (only hindered me at times).
In 2012, my body started to betray me at times though. I checked myself out and found out I had a thyroid problem. It started to cause a domino effect and give me bigger troubles (turned out to be Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease).
In 2013, my bones were hurting a lot. Found out I had rheumatoid arthritis. 2014 started me on a harsh treatment to settle the arthritis which severely compromised my immune system. I get infections almost daily now. 2016 decided to throw Fibromyalgia at me too.
I refuse to stay on my back and say that I can’t do anything. I may be limited but there is still something I can do to keep my mind occupied from my problems. I want this blog to record that progress…or regression of my current state. I hope to keep it up because writing here is a project itself!
What this blog will NOT be talking about:
- Health Advice: This is strictly a creativity blog, not a health blog, although I will talk about some of my health matters here. I will not tell you what to eat, what medicines to take or what advice to take to help you get better.
- Faith: Everybody is entitled to their opinion as to why something happens to you or how to deal with it. It won’t be discussed here though. I only talk about how to deal with being chronically ill, through creative means.
- Life outside of hobbies: Being creative is a means to get away from the struggles of being chronically ill. This blog is meant to be positive. Let’s leave it there!
I hope you will find this blog enjoyable and helpful to read. If you have any creative resources or ideas that you want to share with me, feel free to contact me. I would love to make a post of it!
